In the olden days many Chinese houses use to have Door Guards like the one in the picture above to protect their house from evil spirits which may be wandering around.
The lanterns which hang outside the house indicate which family is residing within the house. The lantern above shows the family name “Chen/Chan” as the owner of the house.
Do you find this statue familiar? It can be seen in different versions outside commercial buildings all over Asia. They are suppose to be guardians which keep help the occupants of the house safe.

The statue is really neat! Reminds me of the dragon in The Never Ending Story.
Not sure if my link linked. I’ll check back.
Thanks for sharing all these little things. I love learning about other cultures.
I just visited CHina this year in May and saw many of the same kind of statues.
Great photos! I love lanterns and I find Chinese culture and traditions so fascinating.
Thanks for linking and leaving a friendly comment! My brother is a professor of a university in Taiwan and can read and speak Chinese. His wife is Taiwanese. That’s the closest relations I have to your part of the world. 🙂
